Medical Colleges in Chennai Tamilnadu

Medical Colleges in Chennai Tamilnadu

India's medical schools are usually called medical colleges. Medical school quality is controlled by the central regulatory authority, the Medical Council of India, which inspects the institutes from time to time and recognises institutes for specific courses. Most of the medical school were set up by the central and state governments in the 1950s and 60s. But in the 1980s, several private medical institutes were founded in several states, particularly in Karnataka. Andhra Pradesh state allowed the founding of several private institutions in the new millennium. Medical education in a private institute is very expensive.

The basic medical qualification obtained in Indian medical schools is MBBS. The MBBS course is four-and-a-half years, followed by one year of Compulsory Rotating Residential Internship (CRRI). The MBBS course is followed by MS, a post-graduation course in surgical specialities, MS or MD and DNB (Highly qualified P.G. and Super specialization), which are postgraduate courses in medical specialities usually of three years duration, or by diploma postgraduate courses of two years duration. Super or sub-specialities can be pursued and only a MS or MD holder is eligible. A qualification in a super- or sub-speciality is called DM or M.Ch.

The Madras Medical College is an educational institution located in Chennai, India. It was established on February 2, 1835. It is the third oldest medical college in India, established after Ecole de Médicine de Pondichéry and Medical College Kolkata and is one of the foremost centres of post graduate medical education in the country with 425 Seats. Azhagiya Kadan IAS Academy Chennai
Mission OF Azhagiya Kadan IAS Academy Chennai
Azhagiya Kadan I.A.S. academy provides best of the faculties for civil services coaching in an Islamic environment, will inculcate with Islamic ethics so in future the candidates of the academy will be pious and God fearing I.A.S/I.P.S officers who are free from evils like bribe, corruption and misuse of office and serve for the betterment of Muslim community and India as a whole. Student of academy run by Chennai mosque cracks IAS Azhagiya Kadan IAS Academy Chennai, At a time when Muslim organisations and political parties are holding rallies and public meetings seeking to increase reservation in government jobs and educational institutions in the state and Centre, a mosque in Chennai has taken a different route to achieve this.

Moulana Shamsudheen Qasimi, chief imam of Makkah Masjid on Anna Salai is a proud man today as his efforts have borne fruit in the first attempt. He started a training academy for civil services aspirants within the premises of the mosque. Azhagiya Kadan IAS Academy was started on the third floor of the mosque with 28 aspirants in 2011. Today, one of its students, Mohammed Ashraf JS, has cracked the UPSC examination in his first attempt with a rank of 1,032.

Shamsudheen says that no other mosque in the country has a civil services exam training academy inside its premises. The academy provides coaching, food, accommodation, books and study materials to students free of cost. It spends more than Rs 40 lakh per year to run the academy, and all funding comes from members of the community.
Ashraf, who was working for Chennai Metro Rail Limited, quit his job in 2012 to make his childhood dream of joinng the civil services come true. Ashraf, who finished civil engineering in Anna University in 2011 is from Karaikudi in Sivaganga district, where his father runs a welding workshop. After completing his graduation, he joined CMRL for a salary of Rs 28,000 a month.

He was one of the 28 students shortlisted from the 1,200 applications the academy received. He joined the academy in August 2012 and took the UPSC exam in May 2013. Though he was ranked as 1,032 when the UPSC examination results were announced on Thursday, it is seen as an achievement by the community members. The academy is expected to play a huge role in motivating young Muslims in future.

Shamsudeen said, "Muslim students should be motivated by Ashraf's achievement. We want more students to come forward and join the academy. Right now, we have 50 students studying here. Next year, we plan to take in 100 students."

Ashraf said he was able to crack the exam only because of the academy and the environment it provided. "Muslim parents should change their mindset of sending children to foreign countries as labour. Instead, they should give them a good education. We have only 2% representation in IAS. It can be increased only through education and making use of academies like the one I studied in," Ashraf said.

Students who want to enroll for the next (2014-15) batch Azhagiya Kadan IAS Academy Chennai ,
can register online at www.akias.in from June 15 to August 12.

About Azhagiya Kadan IAS Academy Chennai In Hindu Paper

Azhagiya Kadan IAS Academy Chennai, functioning from the mosque complex for over a year, wants to reiterate the message that securing adequate space in the administrative structure alone can bring in desirable change in the socio-economic conditions of Muslims.
“The door for political empowerment is closed and we are victims of tokenism in politics. So I have decided to open the other door,” said Moulana S. Shamsudeen Qasinin, Chief Imam of the Masjid and the founder of the Academy. The spark for starting the institution came during his Haj pilgrimage a couple of years ago. “Many VIPs from Tamil Nadu discussed the performance of Muslims in local body polls. But I was not impressed. I talked about a different kind of empowerment, as the community in Tamil Nadu has not produced enough IAS or IPS officers,” he said.
Mr Shamsudeen Qasinin said that before going ahead with his plans, he studied the reasons behind the failure of a few other similar academies and decided not to make the same mistakes.
In 2012, the academy trained 30 aspirants and this year 40 students are taking lessons. Ninety per cent of them are engineering graduates. The students get free food, accommodation and coaching. The patrons spend close to Rs 2.5 lakh every month to run the academy.
“We organise motivation camps in all districts. The aspirants should clear an entrance examination. Candidates securing more than 40 per cent marks are shortlisted and final selection is done through interview,” said A. Arif, the academy’s administrative officer.
The academy sources teachers from Shankar IAS Academy, a reputed institution. Classes for preliminary examinations are held in the masjid, while those who are going to take the main examinations regularly visit Shankar IAS academy in Chennai.
“I decided not to take up job offers from Cognizant and Infosys after realising the futility of engineering education,” said J. Mohamed Meerasahib, who has completed preliminaries of UPSC and TNPSC Group 1. “All I acquired was just bookish knowledge and nothing practical.”
H. Akbar Ali, who also cleared the UPSC preliminary and N. Jasim, now preparing for the main examination of the TNPSC Group 1, also agreed that engineering education never gave them a sense of fulfilment.
Hailing from Udankudi in Thoothukudi district, Akbar Ali, son of a cook, said like all children he wanted to become a Collector and hoped the academy could help him achieve the dream.
Mr. Qasinin said he was also planning to start separate classes for Muslim girls. “Probably we will be in a position to do it next year. I need to make proper arrangement as security of girls is paramount,” he said.Azhagiya Kadan IAS Academy Chennai

History of Anna University Chennai

Brief History of Anna University Chennai

Anna University was established on 4th September 1978 as a unitary type of University. It offers higher education in Engineering, Technology and allied Sciences relevant to the current and projected needs of the society.Besides promoting research and disseminating knowledge gained therefrom, it fosters cooperation between the academic and industrial communities. The University was formed by bringing together and integrating two well-known technical institutions in the city of Madras.
  • College of Engineering, Guindy (CEG)(1794)
  • Madras Institute of Technology , Chrompet (MIT)(1949) and three Technological Departments of the University of Madras.
  • Alagappa College of Technology (ACT)(1944)
  • School of Architecture and Planning (SAP)(1957)
Anna University is a technical university in Tamil Nadu, India. The main university campus in located in Guindy, Chennai. It was named after former C N Annadurai, former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on 4 September 1978.

Situated in the southern part of the city of Madras (Chennai), the University's main campus extends over 100 hectares abutting the Adyar River on the north and Raj Bhavan on the south. The Madras Institute of Technology at Chrompet constitutes the second campus of the University which extends over 20 hectares. Both the campuses have a variety of buildings serving the various needs of the University community. A third campus extending over 80 hectares is located at Taramani near the Instronic campus, Adyar. The Bioprocess Laboratory donated by SPIC is located at present in this campus and a few more centers of advanced studies, like National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Sugar Research Institute, Mechatronics Institute, Entreprenuership Development Park, and Convention Centre will also be housed there in future.

Since December 2001,it has become a large, highly renowned affiliated University, having brought into its fold about 500+ Self-financing Engineering Colleges six Government Colleges and three Government-aided Engineering colleges located in various parts of Tamilnadu State.
In all other cases, he belongs to a college that is administered by the University. So the standard of technical education in that college is independent of the standard of the University.

Oldest Engineering colleges in India

Of the four colleges, CEG is one of the oldest Engineering colleges in the country. It was established even before the Indian Institutes of Technology came into the picture. CEG was established in the year 1794 while the oldest IIT that was set up was IIT-Roorkee in the year 1847 (originally University of Roorkee till it was converted into an IIT in the year 2001). The comparison is on the heritage and not the technical strength, as various factors play a role in determining that. I'd say along with Birla Institute of Technological Sciences and the National Institutes of Technology, the University Departments of Anna University are the only colleges that are on par with the Indian Institutes of Technology.

MIT was established as an autonomous technical institution in the year 1949 and due to its technical excellence and to have a common governing body MIT joined as one of the colleges housed by Anna University. Same goes with A.C.Tech and SAP.

Free WiFi at more Railway stations in Chennai soon

More than 18 months after the free WiFi service was launched at Chennai Central, Southern Railway is now planning not just to upgrade it, but also extend it to a few other stations around Chennai too.

Google will provide and design content, sources in Southern Railway said.

Railtel, which is currently providing the free service at Central, will continue to be the telecom service provider.

“Railtel, Southern Railway and Google will come together to provide free high speed internet connectivity for passengers waiting to board trains.

Free WiFi can be accessed at concourses, waiting rooms and platforms and other areas,” officials told The Hindu on Monday evening.

Elaborating, officials said that the existing infrastructure would be thoroughly revamped and the network scaled up to withstand the spike in data they expect once the new system is put in place.

They said that an important focus of the revamp would be to ensure that there are no ‘dead spots’ – areas within the station that are out of the coverage area of the free WiFi.

According to officials, 37,024 people used the free WiFi at Central in March and over 2,000 GB (gigabyte) of data transfer took place. They said the number of people accessing the free service was increasing — it was nearly 30,000 in February this year. The upgraded network with Google providing content and design is likely to be completed at Central by July, they said.

Central station is first in country to get free Wi-Fi

Browsing is free for the first half-an-hour, and after that, a nominal amount will be charged

Bored waiting for your train at Chennai Central railway station? Step into the virtual world and send office mails or skim through Facebook, using the free Wi-Fi offered at the station.

Chennai Central became the first railway station to get Wi-Fi connectivity after railway minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda inaugurated the facility on Friday. However, many commuters said they were not able to access the Internet from the platforms.

The minister had announced in the Budget that Wi-Fi facility would be provided at all A1 stations. A pilot project has been started at Chennai Central by RailTel, a public sector telecom infrastructure provider.

“To access Wi-Fi, the passenger has to choose the ‘railwire’ network. The username is the person’s mobile number and the password will be messaged to respective users upon registering,” said a railway official.

Browsing is free for the first half-an-hour, and after that, a nominal amount will be charged. “We will introduce Wi-Fi at Egmore railway station next,” said the official.

The iconic Chennai Central railway station is likely to become the first station in Tamil Nadu to get Google’s wi-fi network coverage.

“Plans are afoot to bring the Central railway station under Google’s wifi network by March next year, making it the first station in Tamil Nadu to get the facility,” said sources in RailTel Corporation of India, with which Google has teamed up to provide wi-fi connectivity in 100 railway stations across the country.

Google WiFi at more Railway stations in Chennai soon

From March 2016 onwards, the Central station, where a wi-fi facility has been under trial since September 2014, will offer a faster, one gigabytes per second Internet connectivity to commuters.

While RailTel will provide the broadband service, Google will offer access points, the sources said.

At any given point, over 6,000 people are using the station’s existing wi-fi facility. “As per our figures, during the period of one month between November 15 and December 15, about 6,500 were using the wi-fi facility at any given time,” an official said, adding that Google’s entry would be a shot in the arm for the station.

The six other stations selected for the project -- Egmore, Tambaram, Arakkonam, Coimbatore, Madurai and Tiruchirappalli -- will get the facility by 2016-end, said sources with RailTel, a mini-ratna enterprise functioning under the Railways.

During his visit to India last week, Chennai-born Pichai announced that 100 railway stations would have wif-fi connections by December 2016.

Google’s wi-fi facility will go live first at the Mumbai Central station, in January.
