Chennai: MBBS student loses life after botched-up hair transplant surgery
In a shocking incident, a final year medical student passed away a day after undergoing hair transplant surgery at a salon in Nungambakkam, Chennai.
The surgery was reportedly carried out by two unqualified doctors at the Advanced Robotic Hair Transplant Centre on Santosh Kumar, an MBBS student of Madras Medical College on May 17.
Dr Hariprasad Kasturi, an anesthetist and Dr A Vineeth Suryakumar, an MBBS who graduated from a college in China had performed the surgery at a salon that did not have permission of transplant.
Tamil Nadu Medical Council president Dr K Senthil was quoted saying as, 'We have issued notices to them. We have asked Dr Hariprasad why he did not stay in the salon till the procedure was completed. We have asked Dr Vineeth how he performed the surgery without being qualified. Hair transplant is a surgery and Vineeth is not a surgeon.'

Santosh had felt discomfort after the surgery. When his condition worsened, then his family members admitted him to Christian Medical College Hospital, Vellore, where he died due to multi-organ failure triggered by delayed anaphylaxis and toxic syndrome.
Santosh was the only child of his parents--Josebeen and Pandiaraj, who was born 20 years after marriage of his parents.
